Managing locally saved stories

Stories that you open are saved locally to your device’s memory so that they can be accessed even without an Internet connection. Locally saved stories have a checkmark in their story card. You may remove a story from your device’s local memory by pressing the checkmark and choosing “Remove” in the confirmation window. Conversely, you may save a story locally by pressing the downward arrow that is present in the cards of stories that aren’t saved locally.

Tasks

You may access Tale Reader’s tasks via the Tasks tab (an icon of a puzzle piece) on the home page. Their list works like that of the stories.

In connection tasks, the general goal is to form the right connections between two given sets of images and/or texts. Some tasks might provide more detailed instructions, which are accessible via the “Help” button, and/or audio hints, which can be listened to by pressing the speaker icons.

Settings

You may access Tale Reader’s settings via the cog button. In the settings, you may, e.g., change the app’s language or adjust the coloring of the story view’s text.

Data collection

Tale Reader collects anonymous data by assigning a unique identifier for each device/browser/character combination. This means that if a device is shared by multiple users, each of those users should only use the character of their own on that device in order to ensure that a unique identifier is associated with only one person’s data. If a user uses Tale Reader on multiple devices and there is a need to track all of that user’s data then the unique identifiers should be kept track of manually, i.e. they need to be noted down, e.g., in a spreadsheet so that we know which unique identifiers’ data should be combined to form the complete data set of the user.

The currently active unique identifier can be seen at the bottom of the Tale Reader’s settings view. Pressing the identifier copies it to the device’s clipboard.
